Bars

Both famous as infamous for its Redlight District, Amsterdam has a lot more to offer than that. Of course the Redlight District is worth a visit, but if you are looking for a nice bar or restaurant, the city has too many to offer! Also there are many clubs at your disposal to party till early in the morning. A few suggestions for bars can be found here, but when you wander around in the city you will stumble upon one of the bars of your liking I am sure! Besides the city centre areas the Jordaan, Noordermarkt and Westermarkt, a lot of nice bars can be found in areas as the Pijp and Oud West.

Hannekes Boom

A hotspot at the “IJ” waterfront. Very nice in summertime when you can have a picnic or park your boat for having drinks or a late night dinner.

Bar Italia

Very trendy bar slash restaurant slash espresso bar. At the entrance at the Rokin 81-83 you will find the gran caffe, which is open for drinks from 5pm. From 10pm you’ll hear fresh sounds coming from the resident or guest dj (Tuesday till Saturday). Young hipsters and expats can be found at this place. On Fridays and Saturdays it is usually packed and lines of people dying to get in are normal so be prepared. On the other side of the gran caffe (entrance at Nes 96) you can enter the restaurant, which serves good Italian food with a modern twist.

Tara Lounge

Right next to Bar Italia you will find Tara Lounge which was once an English pub and now a trendy bar and restaurant. It has five separate rooms all with their own atmosphere. Inspired by artists they created different ambiances, which attracts all kinds of people. Definitely worth a visit!

Café Hoppe

You can find a lot of history at café Hoppe that opened her doors in 1670 for the 1st time! Young and old enjoy a drink here. Very pleasant bar personnel who remember your name and say hi the next time you visit the place. Very crowdie in summertime especially on Fridays when a lot of bankers have their drinks there after work. Nice and cosy atmosphere.

Café Thijssen

During the day you can have a nice cup of coffee and a piece of homemade apple pie. Also you can order sandwiches or soup. In the evening you will find a lot of locals and students having a beer or two or a nice glass of wine. No dinner is served but several snacks can be ordered to accompany the beers. In summertime there is a large outdoor terrace. It is crowdie in weekends.
